Dr Shambo Bhattacharya

Profile

Prior to joining iMBE at the University of Leeds as a research fellow, I completed my Ph.D. at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, New Delhi, India. During my doctoral studies, I investigated the mechanical behavior of Annulus fibrosus component of Intervertebral disc tissue across molecular and tissue length-scales. Prior to pursuing my Ph.D., I worked as a Graduate Master's Research Assistant at the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur, India, focusing on the development of spinal implants as alternatives to conventional pedicle screws and ball and socket type TDR devices. I obtained my B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal, India.

Research interests

My research interests focus on developing models of MSK diseases from the tissue’s foundation scale enabling fundamental insights into how diseases impact MSK mechanics as well as correlations between clinically observed degeneration and molecular changes.
