Profile
I hold a B.Sc. in Computing and Electronics and and a M.Sc. in Electronics. I spent 25 years in industry developing software and running teams. I spent a few years developing embedded safety critical software for aircraft and cars and then worked on every aspect of software development from device drivers to server maintenance and software configuration management in the high volume, fast paced world of televisions and set top boxes.
Since joining the University in 2019 as a Robotics Software Technician, I have provided software support to several different teams at the Real Robotics lab. I have developed software to fly autonomous firefighting drones at MBZIRC 2020 and software for a range of small, wheeled robots for inpecting pipes as part of the Pipebots project.
In October 2024, I started work on a part-time Ph.D. (see below for details).
Research interests
My research interests are centered around small, mobile robots and how to improve their reliability and robustness, partly through improving design but mainly by modifying the behaviour of the robot when something goes wrong..
