Leeds mathematician wins IIF Tao Hong outstanding certificate

Dr Jonathan Ward and colleagues have received an outstanding certificate as part of the IIF Tao Hong Award for papers on energy forecasting published in the International Journal of Forecasting.

The outstanding certificate was awarded for their paper “A new error measure for forecasts of household-level, high resolution electrical energy consumption”, which provides high-quality verification tools for load forecasts, which are essential in managing power systems.

Professor Rob J Hyndman, a member of the award committee, said:

“The paper is particularly helpful for work on demand profiling in the residential sector, where the temporal resolution of data has increased rapidly in recent years. In addition, the paper is sufficiently accessible that it can be easily applied in practice.”
