National Mathematics Discovery Centre opens in Leeds city centre

Launched by the charity MathsWorldUK, MathsCity has opened its doors to what they aim to be the UK’s first National Mathematics Discovery Centre, an interactive space to explore the wonders of Maths.

The School of Mathematics has provided logistical and financial support to MathsWorldUK which has helped to bring this project to fruition.

It’s fantastic to have MathsCity in Leeds, offering opportunities for fun and discovery to people around Yorkshire and beyond. We’re delighted that the School of Mathematics has been able to offer MathsWorldUK support in reaching this point, and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with them on mathematical outreach projects in future.

While at MathsCity, Visitors can escape into the fascinating world of maths exploration by climbing inside a giant bubble or a kaleidoscope, exploring different shapes in the laser ring of fire, and getting hands-on with a variety of puzzle challenges. There are over 30 absorbing exhibits to explore that take you on a fun and immersive journey that celebrates the patterns and structures in our amazing world.

The interactive space has been designed to give people of all ages and backgrounds the opportunity to take their first step into the real-life world of maths in a fun and supported environment. It aims to attract adults and children alike from all areas of Yorkshire and beyond, encouraging everyone to practise being curious as they explore, discover, and solve.
