Profile
I am an Assistant Professor in Materials Engineering at The University of Leeds, and a Visiting Researcher at the University of Dundee. I am a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Institute of Materials Minerals and Mining, the Royal Microscopical Society, the Materials Research Society, and the European Microscope Society. Since 2014, I have worked in a plethora of Universities across the UK for research and teaching positions (Leeds, Southampton, Sheffield, et.c.). There, I was given the opportunity to lead the development of new curriculum and research collaborations with other HE and FE institutions. Recently, I got heavily involved in collaborations with Chinese HE Institutions (Southwest Jiaotong University, Central South University, and Xi’An University of Posts and Telecommunications).
I am continuously acting as a reviewer for research grants both in the UK (UKRI) and overseas. Additionally, I have served in numerous editorial and reviewing roles in Elsevier, Wiley, Springer, AIP, IOP, MDPI, Frontiers, RSC.
Research interests
My main research interests revolve around inter/crossdisciplinary and applied research, with a focus on surface engineering of materials, for health, energy, and sustainability. Working in the field of bionanotechnology, I pursue the control of the behaviour of cellular and proteinic systems, via controlling their interface with surfaces, aiming to influence living tissues and organs. In parallel, I aspire to transform traditional manufacturing methodologies for their sustainable transition, as well as to promote pathways and mechanisms for converting conventional materials into advanced ones.
