Inutu decided to study at the University of Leeds because it offers a renewable energy course integrated with electrical engineering. She said “This course would equip me with the knowledge and insight on how to integrate green energy into current power systems.”

Studying at Leeds

“I believe the best aspect of studying my course was getting to learn new and exciting information. It was a huge transition for me as I had studied a Bachelor of Physics for my undergraduate degree so the excitement was getting to learn about practical aspects and how green energy technologies worked.

I enjoyed working on my software-based project that involved controlling an off-grid microgrid powered by wind and solar energy. I was supervised by Dr Salma Al Arefi and the whole process was a memorable one as she was very helpful all the way.

Although my master’s degree was strictly online, the experience of having classmates, friends and housemates from different countries come together was honourable to be part of. Regardless of our background, we were able to learn from each other, to be each other’s keepers and help each other during the pandemic when there was a need for so much interaction, be it online or whilst socially distancing.

I learnt how to be hardworking and use my time effectively whilst at the University of Leeds. Also, I learned how to give priority to my mental and emotional health.
