Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?

I chose to study at the University of Leeds, because it's one of the few schools that offers the course, Mechatronics and Robotics, most universities only have the course "Advanced mechanical engineering".

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?

The university has a wealth of elective courses, and students can choose elective courses in different combinations according to their own preference.

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.

I designed and built a human kinetic energy harvesting device. Although the prototype is still very rough and has not been further improved, I have achieved the goal I could not imagine when I started the whole course last September.

It is challenging to finish a project independently with the limited help of the teacher, but completing it also gives me a lot of experience and sense of achievement.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds has convenient transportation, with a bus station, train station and an airport. Many shopping stores range from affordable brands to luxury goods. A large number of reasonably priced student apartments are available for rent. For Chinese students, there are many Chinese restaurants to choose from. The Leeds lighting festival, gay pride and watching the World Cup together on the square was unforgettable. LUU also offers plenty of travel opportunities, guided by volunteers through a number of Yorkshire attractions.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I hope I can find a job with a decent salary and then settle down in a big city near my hometown.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

Experience in doing assignments. Although it was very challenging in the process, it also gave me abilities that I lacked.

At first I had no idea how to get started, then I understood the principle of quadrotor design with the help of the teacher gradually; and modeling my design with solidworks, etc. These experiences have increased my understanding of this major and related abilities.

As a foreign student, I also practiced my English communication and conversation skills, which will be an advantage if my work requires English skills.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

Whether you want to study artificial intelligence, medical robots, or design mechanical devices, you can find help in many of the optional courses in this subject.

In the future, people who want to get a PhD can exercise their academic accomplishment and improve their academic level. Those who want to work can get knowledge, a degree and experience that they could not experience in their home country.
