Multiscale mixed lubrication and wear of laser textured surfaces: A framework for in-silico trials of orthopaedic hip replacements

This project will deliver a multiscale mixed lubrication model framework applied to laser textured surfaces using hip replacements as an example to accurately predict friction and wear during their deployment in pre-clinical trials. Validation will be performed concurrently using tribometers and gravimetric analysis. The MTC will support laser texture parameterisation, manufacturing of samples for experimentation, and industrial uptake of the multiscale simulation tools developed.
