Jack Breen


Jack Breen is a Postgraduate Researcher Student in the UKRI Centre for Doctoral Training in Artificial Intelligence for Diagnosis and Care. Before this, he completed an integrated Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in mathematics at the University of Nottingham, with focuses on statistics and programming. During this time, Jack completed a module on Machine Learning, and wrote a dissertation on Markov Decision Processes, a form of reinforcement learning. After completing his previous degree, Jack spent one year in data analytics, before starting his PhD at Leeds in 2020. 

Research interests

Jack’s research focuses on applying the latest computer vision techniques to Ovarian cancer diagnosis, leveraging the increasingly common digital histopathology slides to increase efficiency and accuracy. His project seeks to develop approaches that are applicable to routine clinical care to improve the histopathology workflow and to improve patient experiences and outcomes.
