Yasar Awais

Profile

Yasar has been involved with the School of Civil Engineering in a design capacity since 2011, as a visiting practitioner. He is a talented Architect with over a 14 Years of industry experience, with an award winning Leeds based practice.

Yasar enjoys the entire design process, with good technical knowledge. He had involvement at all stages of the architectural service, and has experience in dealing with projects of all types and size - ranging from one off purpose-built houses and the refurbishment of listed buildings, to the design of larger residential developments. Some of the key projects include the

The refurbishment of the former Harehills Middle School, now known as Shine, Leeds, Unity House refurbishment in Wakefield, Calls Wharf residential development in Leeds, Low fold / Climate innovation district for CITU, Ironworks for Igloo regeneration, Midland Mills and Tower,  Canal Mills residential development and various projects for Harewood Estate.

During his time in practice, he played a key role and relished some of the more complex design and technical challenges across the many creative projects he was involved with. He also undertook the important role of practice mentor for students undertaking their professional experience. He ensured students gained the practical experience, professional knowledge and skills typically required for working in the architecture industry. He had the pleasure of supporting a number of students towards their qualification to become Architects.

Yasar also worked alongside various schools in Leeds and arranged the two week work experience for Year 10 / 11 students on a yearly basis. He provided support, and advice for the younger students interested in a career within the Industry.

Yasar was instrumental in the introduction of BIM software to the practice in 2013 and went on to become the BIM champion for the office. He ensured Revit was successfully being used at Level 2/3 on all major projects in the office. He now delivers Revit tutorials for the students within their first year and is on hand to offer support using the software.  Part of Yasar’s role also involved the understanding of the BS & PAS 1192 suite of standards and related ISOs, with the ability to coordinate and manage workload supporting project delivery.

Whilst in practice, Yasar worked as a visiting design tutor for the University of Leeds on the Engineering programme. A role he started in 2011, he supported the team with the introduction of the new programme introduced in 2014.
