Profile
I’m a lecturer of Structural Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Leeds, a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I obtained my PhD degree from the University of Sheffield, after that, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Bath and Imperial College London. Before joining the University of Leeds, I was a lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Strathclyde.
I’m engaged in teaching and learning at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, specialist advisory work and leading a research team in Steel and Composite Structural Design, Infrastructure Intelligence and Artificial Intelligence in Civil Engineering. My principal research interests, in respect of which I have co-authored more than 80 papers, lie in the areas of structural testing, numerical modelling, design and stability of Steel and Composite Structures to normal and extreme events, Structural Optimisation, Robot Construction, Metal and Concrete 3D Printing and Intelligent Infrastructure. My aim is to develop new solutions for civil and structural engineering practice in the whole life cycle of design, construction and maintenance.
I’m always open to welcoming undergraduate, master and PhD students, visiting students and research staffs to my research group for collaborative work. I am also eager to apply our research to solve engineering problems that can contribute to the increased sustainability, automation and resilience of buildings and infrastructure.
