Profile
Bowen Liu received his MSc (2020) from the Department of Civil Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China. He was honored as a RENKEI Early Career Research (ECR) Fellow in 2023 and awarded a seed corn project titled ‘Risk assessment toolkit for a climate-induced flood at regional scale’. He is currently a final-year PhD student in Structural Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering, University of Leeds. His Ph.D. project is on the ‘three-dimensional response of full-scale masonry arch bridges under static, quasi-static, and fatigue loads.’
Research interests
My research focuses on the behaviour of historic masonry infrastructures subjected to multiple hazards. By performing both large-scale laboratory tests and high-fiedility finite element and discrete element modelling, my primary aim is to improve the resilience of these critical masonry infrastructures.
