Racheal Wesonga

Profile

I am a second year post-graduate researcher at the University of Leeds and a member of Leeds Centre for Projects (LCP). I hold a Master of Science degree in Construction Management, a Master of Business Administration (Finance), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantity Surveying, all awarded by Makerere University, Uganda. I have over 14 years of combined experience in construction consultancy, contracting, and university teaching. During this time, I have worked on a wide range of building and civil engineering projects, while also developing strong research and pedagogical skills through my academic role at Makerere University.

My current PhD research focuses on the adoption of onsite microgrids and prosumer energy models within the construction sector. The goal is to support Net Zero Carbon Construction (NZCC) by exploring economically viable and scalable energy solutions. Driven by a deep commitment to sustainability, innovation, and policy-driven impact, I seek to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world implementation of renewable energy systems in the built environment.

Research interests

My research focuses on promoting a sustainable built environment. Key areas of interest include sustainable construction, renewable energy, energy efficiency, low-cost housing solutions, construction economics, building information modelling (BIM), and built environment pedagogy.
