Faidat graduated with a MChem, BSc degree in Chemistry in 2018, before pursuing a Masters degree in Advanced Chemical Engineering. She is currently a PhD researcher at the School of Chemical and Process Engineering, investigating the effect of adding stearic acid, a fatty acid, on the crystallisation of SLI when the mixture is cooled from the melt.
Here, she talks about how she improved her presentation skills by taking up a discovery module.
Expand your academic horizons
“I always felt like presenting was my weakness. I’d get nervous really easily despite being an outgoing person. I knew I wanted to improve this, so I chose a discovery module where presenting was a big factor. It helped me improve my presentation skills, my communication skills and my commercial awareness.
I feel like the discovery module option can take you out of the course bubble you’re in and makes you aware of the wider opportunities around you. It’s an option to be adventurous with, as you can do something completely unrelated to your course. My advice is to look at everything as you’d be surprised at the things you can do.”
