Profile
I was awarded BSc and MSc degrees in Chemistry at the University of Hull, before being awarded his PhD in Chemistry by the University of York in 2013 (thesis title: “The Nitro Group in Liquid Crystals”). Following my PhD I undertook postdoctoral positions at the University of York, working on advanced materials for high performance display devices. In 2020 I moved to the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leeds for a postdoctoral position working on auxetic liquid crystalline elastomers, which lead to the formation of a spin-out company – LCAuxetec.
In 2022 I was awarded a prestigious UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship for a project titled “A New Order of Liquids”. This £1.5M project combines chemistry and physics, both experiment and theory, to sythesise and characterise fluid ferroelectric materials.
