Profile

I graduated from The University of Kent (at Canterbury) with a BSc(Hons) in Physics with Space Science and Systems in 1996. Since then I have been a Laboratory Technician for the last 27 years, including 17 years here at the University of Leeds. My main roles are setting up and maintaining the experiments used in both the First and Foundation Year Undergraduate Physics Teaching Labs and am also responsible for the administration tasks for the labs, as well as being the deputy Lab Convenor for the various first and foundation year lab modules. I am also a Registered Scientist (RSci) as certified by the Science Council and the Institute of Physics. Outside of my work remit I am involved with the Technician Commitment initiative which the University signed up to in 2017, sitting on both the Technician Commitment Working Group committee and the Technician Commitment Steering Group committee. I became the Technician Champion for the Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) Faculty in 2022. Alongside that I am also on the Yorkshire Technician Exchange Partnership committee, the EPS faculty EDI committee, the University’s LGBTQIA+ group committee and the Women at Leeds committee. I also run the University technician Twitter feed.
