Why did you choose to study for a PhD at the University of Leeds?
I attended the School of Electronic and Electrical engineering for my undergraduate studies, I was impressed with the department's facilities and the strong industrial connections. I had the opportunity of two industrial placements during my undergraduate degree. This motivated me to continue my higher education at the Institute of Microwaves and Photonics, a very successful group with world leaders in the field of microwave engineering.
Tell us about your research
I worked on developing advanced designs for microwave filters and microstrip antennas. These are fundamentally important components for any wireless front end system, driven by the continuous demands for future multifunctional wireless connectivity.
What is your favourite part of studying at Leeds?
Leeds is a very lively city, modern, welcoming, truly international with fantastic social and sports facilities. I also met my wife in Leeds, so it will always remain a special place for my family.
What activities do you take part in outside of your studies?
Leeds has many sports venues and restaurants, evenings are very enjoyable with options that would suit every taste.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I am a very technically oriented individual, increasing my knowledge and widening my experience are daily objectives. To become a Chief Technical Officer would be the ultimate goal.
Any advice for prospective students?
It is important to enjoy what you do. An ample amount of support is available for students at the university, from world leading academics, to technical labs, to sports and social clubs; make the best of it.
