Profile
John studied at undergraduate level at the University of Leeds, achieving an integrated masters degree in electronic engineering. This included an industrial placement year at semiconductor manufacturer Diodes as a failure analysis engineer. Progressing from an interest in semiconductors, his masters project was to fabricate and characterise a semiconductor laser known as a quantum cascade laser, which operated at terahertz frequencies. Continuing from this project brings John to his current PhD study of terahertz. His project is to create a waveguide for the purposes of stabilising a QCL.
Research interests
John is interested in all aspects of physical electronics, with particular emphasis on teraherz frequency generation and quantum cascade lasers, and how these areas can be applicable in industry.
