Generating and exploiting Intellectual Property has been at the forefront of my research, which lies broadly in the areas of catalysis and polymers and metals in medicine. For example, wehave worked with the pharmaceutical industry on a project involving the heterogenisation of homogeneous catalysts for hydrogen transfer reactions.
With colleagues at Leeds we have initiated, filed and maintained patents on new organometallic anticancer drugs, the polymerisation and coloration of PLA (polylactic acid), the production of new hair dyes and highly active iridium catalysts, demonstrating the diversity of my research expertise and interests. In terms of the metal containing anticancer materials, we have worked on novel metal-containing drugs that are effective against cisplatin-resistant tumour cells, hypoxic cells and have greater selectivity for tumour tissue.
Drug candidates based on ruthenium, rhodium, iridium, titanium, zirconium, hafnium and iron have been evaluated and have great potential. With respect to catalysis, one of our projects involves the immobilisaion of precious metal catalysts to enable new processing modes, increase catalyst lifetime and prevent product contamination.
Research projects

Any research projects I'm currently working on will be listed below.
