Dr Darren Machin

Profile

I am a multidisciplinary biochemist with expertise in protein engineering and bioconjugation. I gained my BSc, MSc, and finally PhD in chemical biology from the University of Leeds, working under the guidance of Professors Bruce Turnbull and Mike Webb. Since then, I have worked at Leeds as a researcher in areas including vaccine development (Professor Nic Stonehouse), antiviral development (Professor Mark Harris), plant signalling (Dr Tom Bennett), synthetic photosynthesis (Dr Peter Adams) and protein modification (Professor Mike Webb). I am currently working with Professor Mike Webb on protein engineering for specific targeting within the Golgi apparatus.

Research interests

My research interests lie at the interface of biology, chemistry and physics. My particular interests involve developing novel bioconjugation technologies, as well as engineering and modifying proteins for use as therapeutics or as tools in biological studies.
