Harvey Bance

Profile

I am a second year PhD student in the University of Leeds school of chemistry working under the supervision of Prof. Malcolm Halcrow and Dr. Andrew Burnett. I graduated from the University of Warwick in 2024 after completing my MChem studying the synthesis, optimisation and analysis of novel magnetic transition metal fluorides within the Warwick school of materials and analytical sciences. My doctoral grant is paid in full by the Leverhulme Trust.

Research interests

My PhD project focuses on the synthesis and characterisation of Fe (II) coordination polymers and doped Fe (III) metallo-organic complexes, which display the spin-crossover phenomena, and the analysis of their magnetic and vibrational properties. A number of different analytical techniques are needed for this project, including SQUID magnetometry; THz, IR and NMR spectroscopy; both powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction; mass spectrometry; thermogravimetric analysis; and microanalysis.
