Darron Dixon-Hardy holds a BEng (Hons) degree in Mining Engineering (1988) and a PhD in Mine Environmental Engineering (1992) both from the University of Nottingham. In 2001 he was awarded a PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education from the University of Leeds and in 2006 a PGDip in Legal Practice and in 2007 a LLM in Law both from the University of Huddersfield.
After academic positions at the University of Abertay Dundee and Brunel University he joined the University of Leeds in 1999. He was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2006 and from 2008-9 he was a Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Scholar to Leeds Bradford International Airport.
Darron Dixon-Hardy is a visiting Professor at Dumlupinar University in Kutahya, Turkey.
He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. He has served on the IOM3 Memberships and Incorporated Engineers and Technicians Committee and is currently a member of the Accreditation Expert Panel. He is a Council Member of the Midland Institute of Mining Engineers and served as President from 2006-7.

Research interests are in two major themes.
Aviation research centres round fuel efficiency and CO2 reductions utilising flight management pararmeters such as the Cost Index (in conjunction with Cathay Pacific) and novel approaches to reducing fuel use during taxiing (in conjunction with easyJet). Safety in General Aviation especially related to single pilot workload is also an interest.
Energy research is focused on the combinations of hybrid PV/T/PCM systems both from a theotetical and practical experimentation aspect.
Darron Dixon-Hardy currently supervises 6 research students.
