X-ray diffraction

Our facility offers both single crystal and powder X-ray analysis, ranging from simple bulk powder analysis through to crystal structure solution and refinement.

Powder diffraction

  • Qualitative phase analysis
  • Degree of crystallinity
  • Nanoparticle size analysis

Single crystal diffraction

  • Unit cell determination
  • Variable Temperature crystal structure solution and analysis
  • Determination of absolute stereochemistry
  • Preparation of reports for publication in peer-reviewed journals

Equipment

Bruker D2 Phaser

  • Single source Cu-Kα (1.5406 Å) diffractometer equipped with a LynxEye detector configured in Bragg-Brentano geometry with scanning range 5-100° 2θ.

Rigaku SuperNova

  • Dual-source Mo-Kα (0.7107 Å)/Cu-Kα (1.5406 Å) diffractometer equipped with an Atlas CCD detector and four-circle kappa geometry goniometer. Data can be collected between 80 and 400 K using an Oxford Cryosystems 700 series Cryostream and down to 30 K using an Oxford Cryosystems Helix.

Applications

  • Materials science
  • Organic chemistry
  • Inorganic/organometallic chemistry
  • Pharmaceutical/medicinal chemistry

Who can use the facility?

Trained users may collect and process their own data, and we offer two levels of service: data collection only; or data collection with subsequent processing. To make an enquiry please contact Dr Chris Pask, c.m.pask@leeds.ac.uk.
