Profile

After graduating from UCL in 1971, I gained a PhD from KCL in 1977.  During the academic year 1977-8 I lectured in Mathematics at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.  For the next 3 years (1978-81) I was a Scholar at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and then held an EPSRC post-doctoral position in UMIST, during 1981-3.  I came to Leeds as a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics in 1983.

Integrable Systems Group

Research interests

The study of Integrable Systems involves a large mix of different subjects from Mathematics and Mathematical Physics, providing surprising links between apparently disparate subjects.

My main research interests lie within Integrable Systems. Most of my research has been of an algebraic nature: the classification of Lax pairs through Lie algebras and symmetric spaces; Hamiltonian structures and Miura maps; stationary flows and the reduction of Poisson brackets; superintegrability in classical and quantum integrable systems and associated Poisson algebras; integrable maps and discrete integrable systems; cluster algebras and related integrable maps and Poisson algebras.
