- Course: Engineering, Technology and Business Management MSc(Eng)
Why did you decide to study an MSc(Eng) Engineering Technology and Business Management at the University of Leeds?
I did my undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering but I felt that doing a masters would provide me with essential business knowledge along with extra engineering modules. The fact that there was so much liberty in the selection of modules meant that I could effectively shape my course, according to my own interests.
What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
The one distinct feature I’ve felt here at Leeds University is the high level of interaction between students and Lecturers. The professors have always made themselves available, and most class sizes have been ideally sized for an active discussion in class.
Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.
Another exciting thing about Leeds was the number of varied projects I was able to complete in the duration of the course. For example, in of our projects for Managing for Innovation, we had to design a futuristic product and discuss its commercial feasibility. That was, truly, a mixture of engineering and business knowledge.
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
Leeds is an ideal city for people who want to have the best of both worlds: it’s a campus university in the city centre! The nightlife is very active, and there are a large number of clubs in the city centre and the university. Personally, space was my favourite. There’s also always something happening in the city centre, and for sports enthusiasts, Leeds has a very budding sports culture, be it cricket, football or rugby.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I feel my course has equipped me for a career in technology consultancy. And that is where my interest lies. I have always had a deep interest in technology, and now I feel I have acquired sufficient knowledge to work commercially in the technology industry.
What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?
At Leeds, I was able to meet a lot of new friends from all around the world. This certainly helped me in self-development.As far as studies are concerned, I was often on my toes to finish coursework. In retrospect, this taught me how to handle and deliver under pressure and I think that is an extremely important skill if you wish to succeed.
What would you say to students coming to do the same course?
To all prospective students, if you have a penchant for inter-disciplinary studies, if you think that engineering is not your only interest, and you imagine a future that requires you to have essential business knowledge, this is the course for you. It is the perfect amalgamation of engineering and business studies. And within that, you can choose to study varied topics ranging from communication to silicon technologies and many more. The university has a very active learning environment and you’ll love the city!
