Why did you decide to study at the University of Leeds?

I chose to study at the University of Leeds because I like the university the most as a whole. The University of Leeds offers the exact course which I wish to study – Electronic and Computer Engineering. This is a great course which combines both electronics and computers science, which is the two fields which I am interested in the most. Moreover, the university is very highly ranked for Electrical and Electronic Engineering and has a very good reputation.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University and why?

I highly enjoy studying both my electronics modules and computing modules. The best aspect of my course is that it combines the knowledge in the two subjects and allows me to have a further understanding and ability in both fields.

In my course, I learned advanced programming skills in my computing modules and how to build advanced electrical circuits and design embedded systems in my electronics modules. What I like the most in my course is that I can use my advanced knowledge in programming and apply it to the electronics like an embedded system and build it all!

Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed so far?

I have completed many projects so far in both the fields of my course and I have enjoyed them all! One project involved creating the Game of Life using an embedded system. This was very exciting for me as it allowed me to do exactly what I liked the most in my course, which combined and used my knowledge from both fields in the course! I applied what I have learned in my programming modules to program the embedded system and applied it in electronics to build it. Having the advanced programming skills not only made it easier for me to complete the project and make it even better, but also made it much more interesting for me!

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

Leeds is a big city and has everything that students need which makes it an excellent place for students to both live and study. The city center is very convenient, not only because it is very close to the campus, but also it has shops for everything. Overall, Leeds offers excellent opportunities to students living and studying there.

What are your ambitions for the future?

Currently, I haven’t thought about what I want to do in the future too much because I am very interested in and enjoy both the fields of my course. Therefore, it is not particularly clear to me exactly what specific area I want to specialise in currently. For now, I simply have the ambition to do something that involves both computing and electronics. My aim is that after studying more and learning even more of the advanced parts of my course, I would find a more specific area in which I would be the most interested in and follow it in the future.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

Studying my course at Leeds involves much project based learning which I believe helps me study even better. I think that this kind of learning is very useful for future careers because it prepares me for actually doing what I learn in university.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?

This course is very well suited to students who wish to study both computer science and electronics. This is just what I wished to study and so far this course has pleased me very much in terms of what I have learned. It is particularly great, because of the very well combined modules from both fields, as this allows for better understanding in both areas as a whole. Moreover, in my opinion, this course makes it easier to study certain modules and understand them better due to the greater knowledge that is given both by computer science and electronics together.
