Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?
For me, the modules offered matched my interest as well as the program’s 50/50 division in Engineering and Business which is unusual for most UK universities. I made my final decision during an open day - the overall impression, including program, campus and school convinced me and so far my impressions have been confirmed. I can recommend anyone who has not decided, to visit the school & campus.
What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
For me, the best aspect regarding my course is the benefit from teaching and research at two different schools.
Regarding the university, the really good libraries as well as the enriching, and involving international community helped me to make the most out of my time in Leeds.
Tell us about some of the exciting projects you have completed.
One of my projects analyses the current state of research of nanogenerators using ZnO nanowires to forecast its future impact on Smart Clothing. With the fast pacing progress during the last decade, market entry is surprisingly close. Experiencing the transition phase of a technology which currently is unimaginable for most people but may become an everyday commodity in 10 years – that is truly exciting.
What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?
Leeds is big enough to have all the amenities of a city but still small enough to bump into someone you know wherever you go. Not to mention that you can get nearly everywhere via bicycle within 10 minutes. Like in most cities, to find the hidden treasures in Leeds you need to know the locals (the view from the bridge across River Aire, close to Brasserie Forty Four, is perfect for a short study break). And in case you’re having enough of Leeds at least two national parks are within reach for a trip for the weekend. Last but not least, compared to other cities, Leeds still offers great quality and reasonable priced student accommodation - even in the city centre.
What are your ambitions for the future?
I am looking forward to enhancing my work experience in the industry, as well as developing my entrepreneurial ambitions that were piled up during my time in Leeds.
