Why did you decide to study for an MSc in Mathematics and Computer Science?

Although my undergraduate degree was in Computer Science it had a substantial mathematical component. I decided to study for this Masters programme because I developed a passion for both and because I wish to apply for a PhD in theoretical Computer Science.

Why did you choose the University of Leeds?

The University of Leeds is one of the only universities that actually offers a flexible programme in Mathematics and Computer Science. A second and equally important factor was the high rankings and academic standards of the institution.

What are you enjoying most about your course?

Almost everything to be honest. The teaching is superb, the projects we are given are both challenging and engaging and I get to interact with a lot of people from both the Mathematics and Computer Science departments.

How have you found the quality of the teaching?

The quality of teaching is phenomenal. The lecturers are responsive and try their best to help out with any difficulties students have with the material. What impressed me most is how engaged they are with the quality of the education they provide as they always welcome feedback on their course.

What are your ambitions for the future?

I'm currently applying for PhD degrees across the UK in Theoretical Computer Science.

What does Leeds as a city have to offer students?

It's a big city full of wonders. There are places and groups and societies that cater to almost every interest anyone might have. It's a fantastic place to live in.

What would you say to anyone considering this course?

Go for it! It's a fantastic degree to set someone up for a PhD in either mathematics or computer science, or both. And if academia is not your thing, people in industry with an in-depth knowledge of both are extremely rare and well valued.

How did you find the facilities here compared to where you previously studied?

It's not comparable as I came from a very small university, but they are of very high standard.

What experiences at Leeds do you think will help you in your future career?

I would say meeting a lot of new people – students and staff with whom I interact and cooperate with.
