Full Professor Giorgio Locatelli


Professor of Project Management. Educated in Politecnico di Milano has a Bachelor and Master in mechanical engineering (2006) and a PhD “Cum Laude” in Industrial engineering, economics, and management (2011). His research area is project management in large and complex infrastructure. Giorgio also works as a consultant and visiting academic for several institutions, including the IAEA and the UK government. He attracted about 1 million euro in research founds. He is the co-author of more than 100 international peer-reviewed publications. Giorgio sits in the editorial board of several journals including the three most prestigious project management journals: “Project Management Journal” (where is senior editor), the “International Journal of Project Management”,  “Construction Management and Economics”, "Progress in Nuclear Energy"

Research interests

o  Project Management in Large Complex infrastructure & Megaprojects. Focus on value creation and capturing, financing, risk management, ethics & sustainability, circular economy, sustainability, governance and modularisation

o  Energy transition to NetZero. Focus on economics, low carbon infrastructure, cogeneration, energy storage, nuclear power plants & Small Modular Reactors (SMR), decommissioning

o  Engineering Management. Focus on sanitation infrastructure and complex systems, real options analysis, techno-economic analysis of complex systems
