Why did you chose to study the Advanced Concrete Technology MSc?
I was getting more involved with concrete research and manufacture from my job as a structural testing consultant at BRE and it made sense to study further in this area. Our senior concrete technician recommended this course as the way to do this.
What has been the best aspect of studying this course and why?
Increasing my knowledge in areas that I had not looked at before (such as whole life costing).
What projects are involved in outside of the course?
Most of my work with concrete at BRE centres on new or different binders (such as comparing BYF cements to Portland cements, or working with alkali-activated concretes) or casting conventional concrete as a material for structural testing.
Tell us about your ideas for your research project.
Part of my work currently involves testing of different binders to Portland Cement, producing alkali-activated concretes or BYF cements, so it would make sense to work further in this area.
What would you say to students coming to do the same course?
Put in the time to work with your group on group projects as it will help when working on individual projects.
