Dr Joe Barker

Profile

I work within the group of Professor Fiona Meldrum studying the effects of surfaces and additives on crystallisation. I study a range of materials from inorganics such as calcium carbonate, to organic molecules and hybird materials such as MOFs.

My PhD was done within the group of Professor Paul Anderson at the University of Birmingham on the synthesis, structure and properties of carboxyphosphonate metal-organic frameworks.

Research interests

I’m interested in the formation of inorganic and hybrid materials and the mechanisms behind their crystallisation. I am looking at ways to perform crystallisation in confiement as well as the effect of additives and how this affects polymorph, morphological control and properties of the materials.
