Sophie Kirkpatrick

Student Sophie Kirkpatrick tells us about her experience studying Natural Sciences at the University of Leeds and her experience working for Diversey in the Netherlands. She chose Natural Sciences because she had the opportunity to choose her own subject combinations which was to study both Biology and Chemistry.

Year in Industry

Sophie did a placement year, working for Diversey in the Netherlands. The company manufactures a wide variety of cleaning products for building care, hospitality, healthcare, food service, retail, government and education. They develop concentrated solutions for cleaning products, as well as the dosing/ dispensing systems required to dilute the products safely and correctly.

Sophie chose to undertake a year in industry because she wanted to gain as much experience as possible and to build on the skills she had already developed at University.

Undertaking a year in industry has given me an insight into what career I would want in the future.

She added, “I have learned so much about both the business aspect of the company and what formulating cleaning products involves. I have gained more independence because I have to manage my own time and I am responsible for my own project.”
