Roles:
Post doctoral Research Fellow, Institute of Particle Science and Engineering (IPSE), University of Leeds, Leeds, U.K (May 2013-present).
Post doctoral Research Fellow, Institute of Particle Science and Engineering (IPSE), University of Leeds, Leeds, U.K (October 2012-May 2013).
Innovation Scientist, Institute of Particle Science and Engineering (IPSE), University of Leeds, Leeds, U.K (January 2012-June 2012).
Education:
PhD, Colloidal Chemistry & Chemical Engineering (EPSRC funded and case award from Procter & Gamble) - University of Leeds, U.K., (2008-2013)
My PhD project involved the design, engineering and use of colloidal particles to stabilize emulsion droplets to produce material structures exhibiting multiple degrees of functionalities, using a novel membrane emulsification technique. In this process the dispersed phase is expressed through the membrane, drop-by-drop directly into the continuous phase containing stimuli-responsive responsive latex emulsifiers. Data from this study highlights the importance of particle adsorption kinetics on both droplet stability and size control.
MEng (2:1 Hons), Pharmaceutical Chemical Engineering - University of Leeds, U.K., (2004-2008)
I completed an integrated undergraduate degree in Pharmaceutical Chemical Engineering. My final year research project was to examine the influence of sonocrystallisation on the metastable zone width and induction times for the crystallisation of L-Glutamic acid. WinIso software was used to control the batch reactor, whilst microscopy and XRD techniques were used to characterise crystal shape and polymorphs. As part of my third year I was involved in a group project. The task was to design a chemical plant producing active ingredients for detergent formulations. Key components of the project included; performing mass & energy balances, designing of key piping and instrumentations as well as evaluating the feasibility and sustainability of the designed plant.
Research interests
Inorganic particle synthesis, emulsion and foam chemistry, membrane emulsification, microencapsulation, microfluidics, surfactants and polymers, detergent formulation, and wet coating of powders
